Baby Wipes
What is a Seventh Generation Free & Clear Baby Wipe?

Seventh Generation Free & Clear Baby Wipes are not processed with chlorine bleach; they are also free of fragrances, dyes and alcohol, so you get to decide what touches your child's sensitive skin.

How can these softer & thicker Seventh Generation wipes be better for the environment?

While the Free & Clear Baby Wipe is thicker and softer, they use 70% less plastic compared to the material used in the Original Free & Clear Baby Wipe. The Original Free & Clear Baby Wipe material is 100% viscose (polymerized plastic) and the Free & Clear Baby Wipe material is 70% plant material and 30% plastic.

What  fabric is used for the Seventh Generation Free & Clear Baby Wipes?

The Free amp; Clear Baby Wipes are made from a fabric that is a blend of plant material, polypropylene and polyethylene.

These wipes use 70% less plastic compared to the material used in the previous wipes. The previous material was 100% viscose (a polymerized plastic) and this material is 70% plant material.

Making the change from the previous fabric to this newer fabric allowed us to meet our entire yearly goal of cutting virgin plastic use by 80% in 2014. We think you'll agree that this is a huge win for the environment and for your family.

How are the Seventh Generation Free & Clear Baby Wipes whitened?

The Free & Clear Baby Wipes are whitened using a process called Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF) bleaching. ECF uses chlorine dioxide instead of chlorine bleach to whiten wood pulp – a process that does not create appreciable levels of dioxins and dioxin-like compounds. This is the same process used by a majority of the baby wipes industry.

Our Original Free & Clear Baby Wipes are whitened with Total Chlorine Free (TCF) bleaching which uses hydrogen peroxide to whiten. The benefit of moving to the ECF fabric is that it is derived from more renewable resources which results in a decrease in the overall environmental impact of the product. This fabric uses 70% less plastic compared to the material used in the previous wipe. The previous fabric was 100% viscose (polymerized plastic) and the new material is 70% plant based.

Are Seventh Generation Baby Wipes flushable, compostable or biodegradable?

As of today, our wipes are not flushable, compostable nor biodegradable. Designing a wipe that is flushable, compostable or biodegradable and meets our consumer's demand for a soft & effective product remains one of our biggest challenges.

General
Does Seventh Generation test on animals?

We are proud, that since our company's founding in 1988, we have never, ever, conducted or commissioned any animal testing of our products or their ingredients. In fact, we design our products to be safe for people, their homes, their pets, and the environment, and we don't believe any animal should be harmed in the process of making the products you use to create a clean and healthy home. It's just who we are.

There are alternative methods of assessing product safety that don't require inhumane animal testing. We use a combination of laboratory experiments without animals or animal materials, clinical dermatology studies with human volunteers, and globally recognized calculation models.

In 1999, we were pleased to join the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC) Leaping Bunny program, the cruelty-free standard that provides the best assurance that no animal testing is used in any phase of product development by the company or on its behalf. Our cleaning and personal care products proudly feature the international Leaping Bunny logo to increase consumer awareness of our choice to produce products without any animal testing, ever.

Seventh Generation is listed in PETA's database of companies that don't test on animals and whose products are not based on animal ingredients.
